Dear Luck and Marie

Thanks for helping me to disseminate info re how you deem fit :)

Rainbow Centre Early Intervention Centre (Margaret Drive) is organizing a camp for children ages 3-6 and these children have special needs, e.g. autism, global developmental delay, down syndrome, cerebral palsy to name a few. They are with low or moderate support needs, i.e. some supervision needed only. Generally, consideration is duly given to pair volunteers with children who would give relatively little challenges :) Our school staff and teachers usually take those who might require more attention or care. The ratio is one adult to one child generally. There are half-day campers (8am to 1pm) and full-day campers (8am to 8pm). About 1/3 of the campers are half day so we probably do not need these volunteers to stay on after 1pm. There will be about 60 children and we need 17 half-day volunteers and 15 full-day volunteers. The rest are teachers and staff from Rainbow Centre itself. Of course, we welcome anyone who wishes to stay on after the kid that is assigned to him/her goes home.

The camp theme is Farmtastic! As the name suggests, it revolves around animals and farm visits. The activities in the day include group games, cheerleading, farm visits, art & crafts, basic housecrafts (e.g. making sandwiches, drinks, etc.), nap, meals, and we finish it off with a fashion show and campfire (if it doesn't rain). Parents are invited only for the last couple of hours. They will have a preview of the day's events (video montage of the earlier activities) and partake of the food prepared for them by the kids. Then the parents will join the kids for games, fashion show and campfire.

Time: 8am-1pm or 8am-8pm
Venue: Rainbow Centre, 501 Margaret Drive (Queenstown MRT is the nearest, and bus #32).

No. of adult volunteers needed: 17 half-day; 15 full-day (slightly more than these nos. is ok :)

Meals are catered.

The whole program is planned and arranged by the staff. As a volunteer, all is needed is a watchful eye over the kid assigned, facilitating his/her engagement in the activity (sometimes physical help might be needed to compete an activity or to move from one place to another, etc.), and to have fun interacting and communicating with the kids. In a word, we need you to be a friend :)

No experience needed although it might be helpful. A brief introduction of kids, the camp and what-to-do will be given to all volunteers (I can arrange one in church one of the Sat and Sun after services). One of our camp objectives is to engage the public and to raise awareness and appreciation for children with special needs. We do this in a fun way and hence, believe the day should be and will be fun and meaningful for both the kids and adults involved.

I reckon if anyone is interested, they can reply directly to me? My work email is angi...@rainbowcentre.org.sg

Thanks Luck and Marie once again! Marie, as mentioned, Elizabeth (did I remember her name correctly?) asked to be included in the email. And Jeremy too :) May, I'm including you in this email in case you are interested :)

Cheers!
