In the Mokhovaya Tower of the Smolensk Fortress on Victory Square, the Smolensk Decorations Museum has resumed its work.
This Smolensk ethnographic museum, created by enthusiasts, has a difficult fate. It was founded in 1993 on the basis of exhibits that were collected during the expeditions by schoolchildren and teachers of the Gamayun tourist and local history club of the Palace of Children's and Youth Creativity. Previously, the ethnographic museum was located in the palace of creativity, but then it was transferred to the former Museum of Pioneers, located in the Mokhovaya Tower of the Smolensk fortress.
However, several years ago, the ethnographic museum was closed, as there were problems with the supply of electricity. And the other day, he began to work again, despite the fact that he could not solve the problems with electricity. Because of this, the Smolensk Decorations Museum will operate during daylight hours and upon request.
The museum has many unique items of Smolensk life and folk crafts of the XIX – XX centuries, many antiques and tools, there are earthenware and traditional folk costumes.
The Smolensk Decorations Museum is a truly national museum, since Smolensk officials do not allocate a penny for its contents. The museum exposition is supported by enthusiasts of the clubs "Gamayun" and "Sources". They spend here informative theatrical excursions.
