I'm just starting an oil painting project. I have no experience, but I
have read about the materials and technoques. I have no feel for the
amount of oil paint I need for my canvas,
I want to apply a medium thickness of paint, so the surface has some
texture. My canvas is 30"x36". Almost the entire surface will be a dark
blue to blue-black. My question is: roughly how many 40oz tubes of paint
would I need to cove this support size with a medium thickness?
1, 2, 3 or more? Clearly the answer is dependant on just how thick I
apply the paint, but since I am starting from scratch, I'd like a
ballpark idea of how much paint to buy. It isn't free, as we know, so
I'd like to not overbuy. Thanks. Stew.

What's your project? A draw?

Go with 2 Stew, use a large brush or pallette knife to start, get used to
how it moves... then start throwing in some color.
Best of luck with it. BScott
