Terrace House is a Japanese reality television series, now in its fifth year. It follows three men and three women as they temporarily live together in a house in the Setagaya ward of Tokyo. The show recently resumed airing episodes after production was shut down by the global pandemic.

This kind of magic trick isn\u2019t totally unique to Terrace House \u2014 witness the gap, for instance, between the seemingly authentic, one-happy-family camaraderie in Bon Appetit\u2019s YouTube videos with the toxic racism going on behind the scenes \u2014 but Terrace House\u2019s wizardry was especially brilliant, and its manufactured appeal helped it garner cult-like status in the West (though it remains a relatively niche show in Japan, according to Hasnain). The show\u2019s unofficial Reddit page is 56,000 strong. A handful of podcasts have followed the series, though some shows such as \u201CNo Script at all\u201D have discontinued after Hana\u2019s death. Parody social media accounts like \u201Cno context terrace house\u201D garner hundreds of likes and retweets per post.

The premise of Japanese reality series Terrace House is simple: stick a group of men and women in a house together and hope that at least some of them find love. The show has gained a loyal following since partnering with Netflix in 2015, and is currently in its fourth series, called Terrace House: Opening New Doors, which premiered in 2017. Now, Opening New Doors Season 5 will hit Netflix on Dec. 18. But what's next for the residents of this little cabin in the woods after that? Will Terrace House: Opening New Doors get a Season 6?
