IoP MoonWatch: New Moon advisory message

Dear Observer,

This message was sent by the HMNAO / IoP MoonWatch project from its server at the UK Hydrographic Office in Taunton. Your e-mail address has been submitted to the MoonWatch new moon alert program.

The next new moon occurs on 2024 October 2 at 18:49 UT/GMT.

The time of New moon quoted here refers to the instant of conjunction of the Moon with the Sun and not to the time when the crescent moon is likely to become visible to the naked eye. The crescent moon should become visible to the naked eye in the subsequent 16 to 40 hours or so, assuming good observing conditions and optimum circumstances.

Please try and observe the new crescent moon in the western sky after sunset on each of the three or four days following the instant of new moon given above. Observations, both positive and negative, should be submitted including your location and the date, time and circumstances of your observation by e-mail to hm...@ukho.gov.uk until further notice.
