In a fit of nostalgia I’ve pulled out the entire run of Option magazine and started reading them from issue 1. I’m reading the Nov-Dec 1986 issue and came across the following review in the Cassettes section:

Cool & The Clones: Lost in Space

This newest (at least the 80th!) Cool tape features special guests Steve Feigenbaum (guitar) of Wayside Music and Doug Walker (synthesizer) of Alien Planetscapes. All told, the sound is much more spacious and detailed than is usual for this group, and the lament to the crew of the ill-fated Challenger is appropriately austere and haunting. The band seems to be working on providing more room for each other, and the results are better paced and not as dense. Good recording on high-bias tape, though I’d still prefer less room coloration with the acoustics. These guys get better all the time. Cool & The Clones? Can anyone shed light on this??

I am pretty sure, and RB confirmed, that Cool and the Clones were
musicians from Mars Everywhere and/or The Muffins, who were from
Maryland. Doug first played with then back int the late 70's with the
Yeti band. We went to play a gig with them, at that point I dont
remember exactly who was in the Yeti except Doug, Lee Teich (spelling)
and Ken Simon on sax

Cool and the Clones was led by a sax player named Eric Ziarko. He used to work for Steve Feigenbaum over at Wayside Music.

Doug and I went down to Maryland back in 82 or 83 to play a gig with Cool.

I think that the Yeti Band had a drummer named Jeremy. Last name unknown. RB or Walt would probably know more.

Yes, I remember the drummer, his last name began with P and he was a
friend of Lee's. The years have clouded my memory as to whether Jeremy
joined the band first and brought Lee in or the other way around. They
used to rehearse in the basement of the brownstone we rented in Ft
Greene
