Hello, all and sundry!

I'm listening at this instant to "Love Shack Radio" from AP's "Life On Earth" (and you can hear this and other spacey stuff on http://radio.swirly.com)

I'm taking the next year to make a lot of limited edition CDs of old projects of mine, and of projects I've been involved in.  Since I'm making these on a one-by-one basis, I can make as many or few as I (and my assistant) have time for.

I thought of putting out a "semi-authorized" "Best of Alien Planetscapes" CD, sending the family some money in advance against royalties, and then if we actually sell enough to make royalties, making sure they all go to Doug's estate.

As for the ethics, it's clearly advantageous to Doug's memory, it's good for me to sell these CDs at cost simply because it makes my catalog more exciting, and it's good for the public to get this material.

The people who would get slightly shafted are the various performers and production on the recordings, all of whose share would go to Doug's estate - simply because of logistics.  However, my feeling is that these shares would be small, and it would be better for a few hundreds to go to Doug's son than a few tens to go to a dozen people... and you can always hit me up for a Free Beer (or beverage/foodstuff of your choice).

What do you think?

And what's a good selection?  My theory is to have two discs of about 60 minutes each, and then perhaps a "bonus online track" which might be a long show in its entirety, online.  It'd be great to showcase the various periods of AP's history.

A few years back when I had my mail order store, Chris Phinney reissued on CDR a bunch of AP albums that had originally been on cassette on his Harsh Reality label and sent them to me for precisely the purpose you are describing. Plus Rich Orlando made some unreleased music available for same, all of which I sold at cost through my mail order store and sent all the proceeds to Evan. Well… I sent it to a family member to pass on to Evan. I believe there was all around support for the idea (i.e., no one ever complained).
