Friends,

Never a dull moment.

A reptile/alligator has been identified at Hackberry Park.

Houston Parks has activated the correct protocols to safely extract the reptile.

As a precaution, the parking lot has been closed, signage posted and the pond is marked off with caution tape.

We presume Mr. Gator made its way via the nearby bayou.

I will provide a green light to presume activities once available.

Please visit one of our many parks in the interim: Harwin, Alief, Woodchase (Westchase) or any of the county parks: Fiorenza and Storey, Driscoll or George Bush.

Good evening,

It is safe to resume use of Hackberry Park.

Texas Parks and Wildlife has monitored the area over the past week and a half and has not found an alligator.

Houston Parks has appropriate signage in place reminding patrons to stay clear of the water, as is standard practice.

As a reminder, this is alligator mating season, and it's not uncommon for them to make their way into parks and waterways, particularly those connected to /or near bayous.

If you see an alligator or believe you've spotted one in the future:

  • Take a photo from a safe distance and note the date.

  • Report it to 311.

  • Forward the 311 service request number to dist...@houstontx.gov so our office can help track the concern and coordinate with the appropriate departments.

As always, please keep a safe distance from wildlife and never attempt to approach or feed an alligator.

Have a good night.
