Talk by Martin Farach-Colton, Professor at Rutgers University and Tokutek Co-founder & Chief Technology Officer.
Tuesday February 11 at 14:00 in auditorium 38, building 306.
Prof. Farach-Colton is an expert in algorithmics and information retrieval. He was an early employee at Google, where he worked on improving performance of the Web Crawl and where he developed the prototype for the AdSense system. He is a co-founder of Tokutek a performance database company and also a professor at Rutgers University.
Title: What does it take to make a theory result useful? More theory!
The most surprising part, for me, of building Tokutek from an algorithmic result was the realization that every step in the growth of the company required new theoretical results. This is a talk about those theoretical results, where they came from and what they mean.
