Do you use graphing calculators? What kind? If so, do you have class
sets? Do you require kids to purchase them?

What about software like GeoGebra or Geometer's Sketchpad?

Wolfram Alpha?

Here in Youngstown the high school students use graphing calculators. Middle school students use non-graphing. No one is required to purchase anything because it is an urban district and students would rather spend their money on $200 sneakers than a calculator. (Or notebooks and pencils!) --Jane Haggerty

Hi,
we have classroom sets of graphing calculators (OAA acceptable) for
the middle school classrooms at my school. Other than that we do not
use any technology.
Thanks

I have a classroom set of TI-83+ calcs. I also use Geogebra &
Geometer's Sketchpad in conjunction with my Smartboard for various
lessons. Geogebra is a good program, but I like Sketchpad better.
Perhaps its because I've spent more time on Sketchpad.

My favorite application of technology is the "passive solar" kind
though. I make a lot of manipulatives in my shop and get the math
into my students hands. Can we post pictures to this kind of forum?

I'll look into that...

Chad,

to post pictures, you can upload them as files. I think you can also
add them to a new page.

Chad,

I was a sketchpad user for YEARS, but I made the switch to GeoGebra
just because it was FREE, so my students could use it at home. The
things in the new version of sketchpad is just "catching up" on the
part of GSP...GeoGebra has been doing that stuff since the beginning.

It really is like an 83 or 84 or Nspire. THis summer, the developers
are making improvements the spreadsheet, are adding more CAS
functionality, and by 2011 school year, a 3D component. And all FREE!

Sounds great! I'll definitely look into it.

Beth,
that was a typo. I was looking at my home calculator trying to
remember the model of the one at school.
sorry
Matt
