Hey! Join us for a discussion with Rohan D’souza on Martial Arts and Gender at 6 PM this Friday.

Taking the conversation forward from how Social Movements across the world have incorporated and benefitted from Martial Arts, this talk will open up the role that gender plays in the philosophy and practice of martial arts—both traditional eastern and modern western martial arts.
Rohan will draw upon readings and case studies to contextualise the role of gender in martial arts and unpack how gender directs the narrative and further dictates how these different martial arts are practiced and performed, particularly —Kung Fu from China, Muay Thai from Thailand, Kalaripayattu from India and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) in the USA.
About the Speaker:
Rohan is an independent educator and martial arts practitioner and teacher. He is interested inunderstanding the social context within which art forms exist, be it martial arts or popular culture, and also how these shape the practice and perception of the art form. He also teaches Tai Chi and Jeet Kune Do at ALF every Monday.
