Fatima Sheikh, Sultan Jahan Begum, Rashid-un-Nisa, Muhammadi Begum, Begum Hijab Imtiaz Ali, Fatma Begum, Gauhar Jaan - what is common among all of them? They are a few Muslim women in history before India became a sovereign republic. They not only broke the glass ceiling in their time but also, by doing what they did in their respective lives, reflected and embodied the language of constitutional morality even before it was articulated as we see it today.

In the day and era of ideas and implementation of forced emancipation of Muslim women, how do Muslim women occupy space and negotiate for their rights? How do they reclaim the so called definition of ‘emancipation’? What forms do their resistance take?

Come join us for a discussion as we hear our speakers, pioneers themselves, talk about the importance of the political voices of women from the Muslim community.
