Dear friends,

The Government of Karnataka has proposed a ₹17,698 crore twin-tunnel road project from Hebbal to Silk Board, presented as a solution to Bengaluru’s traffic problems. This is one of the largest infrastructure projects in the state.

However, many questions remain unanswered.

Will such a project really reduce traffic congestion? What are its technical and environmental risks? Why was it exempted from environmental clearance? Most importantly, are there better, more inclusive and sustainable alternatives that serve the needs of the majority of commuters in Bengaluru?

To discuss these issues, Fridays For Future - Karnataka is hosting a moderated panel discussion:

ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಸರ್ಕಾರವು ಹೆಬ್ಬಾಳದಿಂದ ಸಿಲ್ಕ್ ಬೋರ್ಡ್ ವರೆಗೆ ₹17,698 ಕೋಟಿ ಮೊತ್ತದ ಜೋಡಿ ಸುರಂಗ ರಸ್ತೆ ಯೋಜನೆಯನ್ನು ಪ್ರಸ್ತಾಪಿಸಿದೆ. ಇದನ್ನು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಟ್ರಾಫಿಕ್ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಪರಿಹಾರವೆಂದು ಮಂಡಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದು ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಅತಿದೊಡ್ಡ ಮೂಲಸೌಕರ್ಯ ಯೋಜನೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದಾಗಿದೆ.

ಆದರೆ, ಈ ಯೋಜನೆ ನಿಜವಾಗಿಯೂ ಟ್ರಾಫಿಕ್ ದಟ್ಟಣೆ ಕಡಿಮೆ ಮಾಡಬಹುದೇ? ಇದರ ತಾಂತ್ರಿಕ ಮತ್ತು ಪರಿಸರ ಸಂಬಂಧಿತ ಅಪಾಯಗಳು ಏನು? ಪರಿಸರ ಅನುಮತಿ (Environmental Clearance) ನೀಡದೆ ಏಕೆ ಮುಂದುವರಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ? ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಗಿ, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಪ್ರಯಾಣಿಕರ ಅಗತ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಪೂರೈಸುವ ಉತ್ತಮ, ಸಮಾನ ಮತ್ತು ಸುಸ್ಥಿರ ಪರ್ಯಾಯಗಳಿವೆಯೇ?
