Faulty Posture -----> A weak body ------> A Number of Medical Problems ----------> Including Infections

Let's hope at least the Public wakes up to this problem, if not our association of scientists.

Hello list,

maybe it's time to promote coming up for theories about the placebo effect. "Up to 40% of all chronic back-pain sufferers could be cured with a course of anti-biotics". That's just mildly more than the placebo effect (usually about 30% success rate), and hardly worthy of a Nobel Prize.

However, immobilised and weakened tissue and muscles could indeed be prone to all sort of infections, which can potentially be treated with anti-biotics. The article raises more questions to me than offering solutions.... if half a million out of 4 million chronic back pain sufferers can be helped, that's just 12.5%. To help 40% of them it would need 1.6 million.

But then, it's the guardian, doctors are probably not really good mathematicians, and treating the symptoms of a long-term condition seems still the easier option than to look for causes. Especially if some people suggest that simply by coordinating movement differently mysterious things like chronic back pain could get better.

Greets,
Lutz
