West Glebe Road Bridge Demolition Has Begun
Contractors
have started demolition of the West Glebe Road bridge between Arlington
County and the City of Alexandria. This demolition will conclude
approximately by the week of September 5.
Work hours will be Monday to Friday (excluding federal holidays), 9:00
A.M.-4:00P.M., with work on nights and Saturdays as needed. People
should expect to see equipment on the bridge deck and on the banks of
Four Mile Run adjacent to the bridge, and hear the sounds of the bridge
being dismantled.
A
temporary pedestrian bridge is open parallel to the main bridge deck to
maintain pedestrian and bike travel continuity. The main bridge has
been closed to vehicle traffic since May 2022. The Four Mile Run trail
underpass will continue to detour onto South Glebe Road and South Four
Mile Run Drive.
After
demolition of the bridge, construction on the foundation of the bridge
will begin in September 2022. To learn more, visit the West Glebe Road Bridge Reconstruction project page.
July 29: Dominion Substation-Four Mile Run Trail Detour
Dominion

construction, starting approximately July 29. Crews have set up
pedestrian detours along Route 1/Richmond Highway and South Glebe Road
in anticipation of the closure.
