Hello DES-TEO,
Please have someone look at the bike lane-detour signage on S. Eads Street. Right away.
Some of it is non-sensical. In particular, there is one sign placed
directly in the middle of the s-bound lane that is facing south - that
is, the back of the sign is what users of the lane will see. And it is
completely blocking the lane.
It's not clear if the intent is that southbound cyclists are supposed to
travel the wrong way in the northbound bike lane. Is that what is
intended? And, if so, is that a good idea even?
Someone with a knowledge of MOT, cycling, bicycle infrastructure and
basic common sense needs to physically go visit these signs and make
them function in a rational way, such that all users (drivers, people on
bikes, etc.) are clearly directed, and that the signs themselves are
not also obstacles. The contractor cannot be relied upon to do this
intelligently.
Also, they need to remove the signs when they are not working, and any
detours are not in effect. I noted at least two of them blocking the
bike lanes during the weekend while there was no construction occurring.
Thank you,
Steve Offutt
