Hi Antoinette,

I am sending this email to the Books group as per course. In future, if you do NOT want my reply to be archived with your email there, then let me know - in this case I will reply and delete the reference of your email. I am asking you to be the guardian of that.

Just catching your email before I head off to Oz - can't do anything by Aug 31s sorry. Probably not after either. My contribution is as already being done - the google group, archiving people's thoughts, and developing a set of questions specific to each book/chapter, with references from the writings that answer each question.

I do agree with Rob's approach for the ATI "assessment" though. My approach is based on the idea of creating a "Knowledge Certificate" for my training that assures me that all my trainees has spent time reading, thinking about, discussing and assimilating Alexander's ideas so there is a certain cognitive rigor about their understanding of basic concepts. In this my wish and ATI's wish diverge.

I was only willing to help ATI as I believed our interests converged on this issue. However, this may not be the case and, if so, I apologetically decline to continue in that role. However, I am still willing to continue the research I am doing with Google group. This is a long term project, part of my training school development, and I am quite willing to share any fruits that may arise out of this work.

However, it goes very slowly!

Dear Nancy and Jeremy,

The two of you and Rob Bushong offered to help with developing questions on FM's writings.  Thank you so much for making this important task doable!

Rob's comments, which I sent you, make a lot of sense.  For the Demonstration of Knowledge we will need broad questions that a beginning teacher who wants to be certified by ATI ought to be able to answer.  The questions will need to come with sample correct answers--an indication what a correct answer would include.   The future study guide should also include a reference to where one can read up about it in FM's books.

Rob is coming up with some questions accompanied with sample answers for the topics that were marked "very important' on that bar chart that I gave you both.  (List follows below) It would be great if you could do the same in the next couple of weeks.   Would you be able to send me some questions and answers by 31 August?

To stimulate ATI members to think up questions, we can then put the questions we have so far on Jeremy's on-line group, and have them at the AGM.  In the next Communique there will also be an invitation to all ATI members to contribute questions.

Thank you so much!

Warmly (though staying cool),

Antoinette
