Unfortunately that link, after a few selection steps, does not download anything, so I unfortunately had to get the file (vc_redist.x86.exe) from SoftPedia (even though I don't like to get files from unofficial sites).
So, I cannot distinguish whether this installer was succesful and just requires a reboot at the very end of my installation sequence (I do install otehr stuff before and after) - or whether the installer actually refused to do anything and I would need to restart the system and start this installer again!
Of note: My trial runs on my dev machine all started with a reboot already pending at "step 0", and both the VC2005 and VC2010 installer run just fine (as verified through their GUI progress) even if a reboot is pending before hand. It's the VC2017 installers that refuse to do anything if a reboot is pending.
I found that the bundle installs: Update for Universal C Runtime in Windows - KB2999226. This component consists of Windows Update files (*.msu - used by Windows Update) and not just MSI files. I would suspect that they could be designed to require a reboot before allowing installation, but I don't have proof.
Suggestion: Run a check to make sure KB2999226 is installed. How to do this? I don't know a Win32 call, but the WiX guys will probably know. Here are some other suggestions.
Corporate Deployment: In a corporate environment I would deploy these *.msu files via the distribution mechanism available - whatever it might be - for example SCCM - before installing the vc_redist.x64.exe package.
Strictly speaking, error 3010 is a success result. It means that the install has completed but requires a reboot. I'm not aware of anything to indicate that it means the install didn't start at all. The typical "won't install if reboot pending" is a result of using a launch condition based on the MsiSystemRebootPending property. Failures due to this launch condition do not return return a 3010 result - they usually return a 1602 error as a kind of "user cancel" error.
The .exe extension on a filename indicates an executable file. Executable files may, in some cases, harm your computer. Therefore, please read below to decide for yourself whether the vc_redist.x86.exe on your computer is a Trojan that you should remove, or whether it is a file belonging to the Windows operating system or to a trusted application.
Important: Some malware camouflages itself as vc_redist.x86.exe, particularly when located in the C:\Windows or C:\Windows\System32 folder. Therefore, you should check the vc_redist.x86.exe process on your PC to see if it is a threat. We recommend Security Task Manager for verifying your computer's security. A clean and tidy computer is the key requirement for avoiding problems with vc_redist. This means running a scan for malware, cleaning your hard drive using 1cleanmgr and 2sfc /scannow, 3uninstalling programs that you no longer need, checking for Autostart programs (using 4msconfig) and enabling Windows' 5Automatic Update. Always remember to perform periodic backups, or at least to set restore points.
Should you experience an actual problem, try to recall the last thing you did, or the last thing you installed before the problem appeared for the first time. Use the 6resmon command to identify the processes that are causing your problem. Even for serious problems, rather than reinstalling Windows, you are better off repairing of your installation or, for Windows 8 and later versions, executing the 7DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth command. This allows you to repair the operating system without losing data.
To help you analyze the vc_redist.x86.exe process on your computer, the following programs have proven to be helpful: ASecurity Task Manager displays all running Windows tasks, including embedded hidden processes, such as keyboard and browser monitoring or Autostart entries. A unique security risk rating indicates the likelihood of the process being potential spyware, malware or a Trojan. Installing dependencies when starting the Escape From Tarkov installation (config from Lutris source) terminates with code 256. Specifically, the failure occurs at vc_redist.x86.exe /q. What could be the problem?
I don't see an announcement for 1.8 release here, so I'm a bit confused why I was prompted to upgrade and hoping what I installed was actually released by ZWO and not some unknown third party. Uninstalling 1.8 and reinstalling it does not fix the problem. Downgrading to 1.7 works.
Installed Trimble Business Center and getting a missing DLL error. Tried what was recommended about installing vc_redist.x86.exe and/or vc_redist.x64.exe files. Also tried the microsoft feature pack but it did not solve this issue. Anyone have any idea what will fix this
Many people are receiving the following error after tonight's maintenance.
When launching the game: The program can't start because MSVCP140.dll is missing from your computer.
All google resolutions, re-installing the game / full file scan / re-install launcher / reinstall visual c++ did not fix the issue. any suggestions?
Still want to know what the developers are fn with to corrupt that install......
If it would have been just me.. i'd say something with my pc... but literally at least 1 pc was affected by a dozen of my friends
Microsoft Visual C+ somehow got corrupted, on My main Computer Intel i7-6700... could only log my support/shop computer(mid level AMD APU). When I gave up, and re-installed on my Main Computer... I tried to update Lineage on my Media computer, an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400... I haven't played any characters for some time, but I got the same error after updating.
I had to re-install Visual C++ on both of my computers... an Intel i7-4600 Tower and an Intel i5-6200U Laptop. I seem to recall when trying to upgrade other peoples Computer Hardware to support Win7/8/10... That Intel CPUs used to insert an orphaned Registry entry(which made it almost impossible to update the OS, and keep all your programs if you changed to an AMD CPU) maybe that orphaned Registry entry just happened to corrupt the Visual C++ on Intel Computers?
