I recently acquired an IS400 with an old laptop with GS5 installed (no install disc, parallel dongle). My Help About says VERSION=4.0.0.0 TO 5.1.xx.xx. So am I able to download those 23 RARs and install 5.3 on a more stable desktop and it will work with my dongle?
Hi.. a quick question.. I currently have gravostyle 98 with the big dongle in a Windows 98 computer. If I wanted to use it in an updated computer, would a cable with the big serial port on one and and the USB to go into the computer on the other end do the trick?

If the updated computer is a laptop and you can't install the card, I would suggest getting an inexpensive desktop system. The software works well on XP. I installed the program on a new system a few months ago. The install went smooth, but I did need a lockout code from New Hermes.
This will depend on the application, for instance for marking logos, the lasers are more accurate, for achieving a specific depth of cut, the rotary machine are more precise. Contact our Sales or Technical team for information on your particular application.

Yes, it is possible. There is no limit to how many computers you install it on, however to run the software you must have the USB dongle plugged in. Please follow the installation instructions carefully.
This is likely from an issue from the software not the machine. In the Lasering machine setting screen check the PREVIEW, you may find that is is off the screen or not displayed at all. Check the settings and resend to the laser.

Looking on Google this is an issue that can affect any printer but the only specific solution I can find relates to HP printers only. I wondered if anyone had encountered such an issue before and whether there was a solution I could try?
Thank you for all your suggestions. Sadly none have cured this problem. It does appear to be an issue to do with how Windows identifies the USB devices. If I start the PC up with only one of the engraving machines turned on it is identified as Machine1. If I test with the other engraving machine turned on instead, that also gets identified as Machine1. If I start with only one turned on and then turn the other on once I have logged into Windows, they both get identified correctly.
Do you only have one of those license dongles? If so, I would give the vendor a quick call and explain you are wanting to eliminate the problem by dedicating a computer to each machine then ask if they can provide an additional license dongle for the second machine or two new ones with a single license per each dongle.
Thank you all for you help. This issue now appears to be resolved. The support team at Gravostyle introduced me to a firmware management tool that they developed that could assign a different identification to each engraving machine. This appears to have done the trick.
Unfortunately, I think you may be out of luck. All products that use the ancient parallel port dongles are long out of support, as are the parallel dongles themselves. Steinberg are in the process of deprecating the USB dongle system; the latest version of Cubase does not use it.

My wife worked for a company called things remembered and they are closing a few stores and are selling the engraving machines. Since my wife enjoyed engraving so much i decided i would buy one of the machines however, i'm not sure if we will be getting the dongle for it or if Gravostyle will be downloaded and working on the computer that comes with the machine.. does anyone know of another engraving program that is compatible with the Gravograph M40 machines?
