Hi there,
I want to export multiply polygons into multiple alembic files. Can I do something like:'AbcExport -j "....-file 1.abc" -j "...-file 2.abc"'?
I also have one question, Do you guys bake the whole scene into one alembic file or bake each character separately?
Thank you!

Yup, you can export to multiple files at the same time with the example syntax you gave.

A lot of places tend to bake the characters separately, that way if character A is ok, but character B needs some fixes, you only need to go back and export character B.

hi,
i was wondering if you can change/overwrite only on character if you
have multiple character in the same file?
Do you have to rewrite the entire file or can it be written
selectively?
thank you

Alembic files are not designed to be modifiable once written. Thus
you have to rewrite the entire file I understand.

Although in HDFView it is possible to delete parts of an Alembic file,
although maybe it rewrites the whole file to disk? Is this write
once, read many paradigm part of HDF5 and thus filters up as a
constraint of Alembic or it is something that Alembic imposes for
simplicity.

BTW Katrin, if you have a character that is changing a lot but the
rest of the scene isn't consider making it multiple separate ABC
files.

hi,
thanks for confirming, this is kind of how we understood things
worked.
It be handy to have selective writing anyways.
