Hello,
We're trying to write a set of DOP-simulated packed primitives in Houdini, using the Alembic ROP that comes with Houdini 13.  The packed primitives aren't deforming, just transforming, but we're getting a sample per frame for the geometry, too, not just for the xforms.  The export is also slower than we would expect, I assume because it's comparing each sample of geometry for compression.

Has anyone been able to export animated packed primitives with just a single sample per object?

Thanks...

Hello Chris,

Take a look at packed fragments, they might be more efficient.

Packed fragments
are similar to in-memory packed primitives. They contain a transform and a read-only reference to a subset of another packed primitive. This lets you copy and share instances of pieces of a larger geometry efficiently.
