DarkAges just got a whole lot darker. Play Crusader Kings III as an immortal vampire! You are the Prince of the city! Inspired by the World of Darkness, Dark Ages: Vampire, Vampire: the Masquerade, Vampire: the Requiem, etc...

Princes of Darkness is an overhaul of the base game, aimed at bringing the World of Darkness into life in Crusader Kings 3. As such, it has many gameplay concepts altered, and use the extensive lore of its world to propose a different experience all around.

The first thing to note is that, as a Vampire, you are immortal... sort of. You won't die of old age or disease, but being put to the torch or decapitated will still end your unlife. As such, succession is a lesser, but still present, concern for you. In the same vein, Marriages can't produce children, so they are mostly a political tool available to a select few religions. Religions are a core part of the gameplay, even more than in CK3. Here, it represents the core philosophical tenets of your character, which help him not fall to the Beast. Indeed, the Beast -a literal manifestation of your inner monstrosity- is one of your worst foes, and managing your stress is paramount to not fall prey to it, as it would mean your character has become a feral wight, resulting in his abdication. Take notice of your hunger, a core modifier representing your need for blood. Hunger is used for many schemes and powers, and replenish slowly or with active hunting.

Vampires are slow at learning new things. As such, you still have access to the base lifestyles, but at a lower rate of progression. You can instead choose to invest your time into the disciplines, opening the powers of the damned for your use. Buildings represent your influence over the mortal populace. Most are capped by a stat like control and you will have to choose how to balance these. Note that major centers of populations, represented by high development duchy capitals are the biggest asset any Prince can dream of. Warfare is sensibly altered, with a bigger emphasis on knights. The prowess of your knights can easily overcome a much more numerous foe, especially if mostly composed of levies. As such, be very wary of high prowess hostile Vampires. In a world full of deceit and tricks, intrigue plays a bigger role. There are new schemes to discover, some linked to your powers, and most of the characters have secrets better left untold... or used for blackmail if their religion allows it.

The World of Darkness is an universe running for more than 30 years now, with hundred of books and other medias covering it. The main idea is that, in our world, several factions of supernaturals creatures are interacting below the surface, creating an underworld full of intrigues and stories. The Vampires of the WoD are mainly the result of the biblical curse against Caine, the first murderer, and most are tracing back their lineage to him in a system they call 'generations'. This dynasty tree of the undeath has branched into several factions, the clans, each with its strength, weakness and geographical power base. In Dark Ages : Vampires, which you are playing now, we are following the undead world at the crossroad of several major crisis. The sack of Constantinople has happened, and broken the major Cainite Empire of the time, having a ripple effect as far as France and Persia. Meanwhile, the Church Inquisition is gathering support and information, almost ready to usher the age of retribution on the cursed bloodsuckers...

1230 AD: "The War of Princes" is the period of conflict in Cainite history that began shortly after the fall of Constantinople to the Fourth Crusade in 1204. The term refers to the conflicts over territory that the various princes of Europe fought after the end of the Long Night. The War of Princes began shortly before the Inquisition was formed. Although the Inquisitors were initially used as tools by the elders, they soon became a greater threat to the Cainites than the Cainites were to one another. Although it is not clear exactly when the War of Princes ended, it would have likely been forced to a conclusion with the advent of the Anarch Revolt, if not sooner. Will you be able to win conclusively the War before the mortals start their uprising against their rightful masters?

As I embark on the 13th year of my professional pilgrimage, I am privileged to have worked in the military, marketplace, and Christian ministry. Hence, I am inclined to associate myself with the ambitious yet fickle-minded traits of my generation and the increasingly challenging prospect of being active marketplace evangelists.

It is neither simple nor straightforward to shine for Jesus as a young adult in a progressively dark world. That said, I hope that my experiences and observations will encourage you to persevere as an ambassador of truth.

My definition of Marketplace Evangelism is: The intentional effort of ensuring that colleagues and work associates recognise your Christian faith and lifestyle through your choice of words, work attitude, and what fills your calendar after office hours.

I have repented, of course, but I remember feeling severely humbled when my supposedly inferior administrative manager demonstrated, with ease, how to negotiate both complicated Chinese laws and cunning Chinese businessmen with shrewdness. Only then did I appreciate our vast differences and his vast experience.

I spent 21 months as a marketing manager in the alcoholic beverage industry in Shanghai. Sometimes, I had to accompany my boss to entertain clients at bars and nightclubs. In a (literally) dark place fraught with affordable sleaze, it becomes easy to forsake your Christian values, especially so if you are a visually-stimulated, testosterone-filled man.

Fight the temptation of sluggishness and haphazard work. Fight the temptation to abuse the privileges of position. Fight the temptation of excessive occupational indulgences. Fight the temptation of a secret and decadent lifestyle when overseas or when no one is observing.

A former Singapore Armed Forces colleague commended me for heading into full-time ministry because it was something I had told them I would do eventually. And when he learnt that I am ministering in a church now, he spoke of the respect he had for the decision I had made.

The Church must teach her youths and young adults how to remain relevant instead of teaching them to be perfect religious snobs. With behaviour that is sometimes out of this world, what does it mean for a Christian to be in, but not of, the world?

Believers must learn to write their own testimonies and be equipped to share it anytime and anywhere; they must also know when and how to step out of their comfort zone to bring comfort to a society that is hurt, confused and searching for more.

I have discovered that being available and meeting felt needs are the most effective ways of marketplace evangelism, and these usually work in tandem. You should be available for them in their time of need.

I encourage my young people to be sensitive to the prompting of the Holy Spirit whenever they converse with people, so that they are able to recognise when they should transit from a worldly dialogue into a spiritual conversation.

My students are know-nothings. They are exceedingly nice, pleasant, trustworthy, mostly honest, well-intentioned, and utterly decent. But their brains are largely empty, devoid of any substantial knowledge that might be the fruits of an education in an inheritance and a gift of a previous generation. They are the culmination of western civilization, a civilization that has forgotten nearly everything about itself, and as a result, has achieved near-perfect indifference to its own culture.

But ask them some basic questions about the civilization they will be inheriting, and be prepared for averted eyes and somewhat panicked looks. Who fought in the Peloponnesian War? Who taught Plato, and whom did Plato teach? How did Socrates die? Raise your hand if you have read both the Iliad and the Odyssey. The Canterbury Tales? Paradise Lost? The Inferno?

Who was Saul of Tarsus? What were the 95 theses, who wrote them, and what was their effect? Why does the Magna Carta matter? How and where did Thomas Becket die? Who was Guy Fawkes, and why is there a day named after him? What did Lincoln say in his Second Inaugural? His first Inaugural? How about his third Inaugural? What are the Federalist Papers?

Above all, the one overarching lesson that students receive is the true end of education: the only essential knowledge is that know ourselves to be radically autonomous selves within a comprehensive global system with a common commitment to mutual indifference. Our commitment to mutual indifference is what binds us together as a global people. Any remnant of a common culture would interfere with this prime directive: a common culture would imply that we share something thicker, an inheritance that we did not create, and a set of commitments that imply limits and particular devotions.

People offended by the words God, Sin and Salvation will never understand the decline of Christendom described here. Education divorced from our higher and deeper eternal spiritual core will become aimless and barbaric, setting the stage for lowest common denominator, cool clone culture, men and women without chests..

Cavil comment manages at length to avoid the vital point the author makes.

Attacking the author of the important and thoughtful article with cavil criticism is a fine expression of a rhetorical device which which has a specific name but I will just describe it. When the debater or commenter cannot counter the factual substance of the message presented, but wishes to negate it, denigrate it, rather than discuss the truth entailed,

his best bet is to attack the messenger, to cavil and denigrate the author

as best he can, as done by the well meaning Wm de Vriend comment above.

I suspect that the cavil message author knows there is an unidentified source behind the big picture of what American education esp. academia

has become: a weapon against the culture and civilization of the West:

a weapon created by an emergent powerful genetic-psychopath supremacist race-entity that does not wish to be identified. The caviler might well praise the author for his restraint, but in fact, divulging more would probably haved nixed the article.

He provided enough info to catch the interest of the slightly aware curious

and that is an accomplishment!

That is my opinion, not necessarily revealed truth.
