Using stem cells for human therapy: cell replacement, drug screening
and disease modelling
Dr Stephen Sullivan of Rockefeller University, New York discusses what
are the special characteristics of stem cells, what the different
types of stem cells are, and how each type is being used in different
ways to treat human disease.
Dr Sullivan will highlight common mistakes made concerning stem cells
in the media and will highlight the broader problem of the decline of
fact based science journalism and the rise of unsubstantiated blogging
and the particular problem this represents to medical decision making
generally, and those involving stem cell therapy in particular.
