Forwarded message regarding the upcoming Tree Equity meeting below:
My name is Ayanna Brunson, and I am with the University at Albany’s ITECA (Institute for Transformational and Ecosystem-based Climate Adaptation) and we are partnering with the Radix Ecological Sustainability Center and the City of Albany’s Office of Sustainability to host a Tree Equity town hall meeting with members of Albany’s key communities impacted by extreme heat, flooding, and lack of trees.
As part of the City’s Act Now Albany Plan, we are already working with young people to plant trees in neighborhoods as a solution, and we need the community’s input.
If you are a member of the community, we invite you to our first Tree Equity Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, from 6:00 – 7:30 pm at the Albany Public Library - Washington Avenue Branch in the Community Room. At the town hall, you will help your neighbors create a community map with your needs and priorities.
See the attached flyer for more details.
If you are with a community organization or local agency, we ask you to please forward this email to members of the community you work with and invite them to the Tree Equity Town Hall Meeting. Your key staff are welcome to join us too.
We are forming an Intergenerational Community Advisory Council (ICAC) with adults and youth (ages 18-25) to help lead the effort in low-tree areas in Albany, and will nominate ICAC members at the town hall. We will host additional participatory town hall meetings in the future to continue to guide equitable tree planting in Albany.
