Hi, Jean

Here’s the info on the talk that my church organist is giving on Commuck, a Native American who wrote some hymns that appear in shape note hymnals.

Thanks
Nina

Thomas Commuck, a Narragansett Indian and member of the Brothertown Indians, became the first published Native American composer. His book Indian Melodies consists of 120 hymn tunes written in shape note and traditional notation.
Learn about his life and the history of Brothertown, and sing the music!
Presented by Carol Scott, MATS, and HUPC organist.
*Refreshments will be served *Presentation will also be live streamed on the Facebook page of Hamilton Union Presbyterian Church.
