Hi all!
Wanted to share a grant opportunity that felt like a strong potential fit for the Alaveteli and others doing document-heavy civil society/journalism work. One of the open source tools we run at MuckRock, DocumentCloud, has been building out a range of tools and extensions to help with automating document collection, analysis, data extraction and publication, and one of our funders has agreed to do sub-grants for projects that can help us extend that it impactful ways or help preserve documents at risk of governmental or corporate censorship.
More details here, but some examples of projects including scraping and archiving documents posted to open data portals, using AI to summarize bulk documents or to create databases from document dumps, setting up alerts for certain keywords, identifying bad redactions or sensitive personal information in document collections, and more.
Grants are in the range of $10,000 to $50,000, with incentives for grants that span multiple organizations.
Thanks,
