What Do They Know in Japan?

Hi team!

I am Daisuke Furuta from Tokyo, Japan. Anybody knows if Japan has this amazing site or not. If no, I am interested in setting up.

Hey Daisuke!

Thanks for your message and sorry for the delayed response. We don't know of any FOIA sites in Japan at the moment but it might be worth reaching out to Code for Japan to see if it's something they're thinking about working on at all. 

If you do go ahead and set up the site, all the information you need can be found at Alaveteli.org - including sections on running and administrating the sites. Please do let us know if you get a site up and running as we're always keen to know where Alavetelis end up springing up. 

Currently, as you probably already know, we're no longer able to offer the free support to set up the site - but you'll find lots of questions and answers from other users in the google groups.

Dear Daisuke,

In Hamburg on a conference for investigative journalists last year I met Satoshi Kusakabe. Maybe Martin, Michael and Staffan remember this too. I am confident that he would be interested in talking to you about this. Please let him know that I told you this, he might remember our meeting in Hamburg. And please say hi to him for me!


Good luck and let me know if there's anything I can do or tell you about since we in The Netherlands recently started the Dutch version (with a lot of help from mySociety, lucky us) and are using the Pro version which could be interesting for journalists, like Satoshi.

Thank you for your email and I am glad that I know all of them who you mentioned! I will have a first online meeting with journalists including Satoshi about how we can collaborate to set up a Japanese version.
