This event will explore how Freedom of Information (FOI) rights can be powerful tools to expose the realities of AI and algorithmic decision-making in government.
We’ll be joined by three outstanding speakers:
Jake Hurfurt (Big Brother Watch) – on new developments in government algorithmic decision-making and how transparency is being undermined
Gabriel Geiger (Lighthouse Reports) – sharing insights from the Suspicion Machines investigation, which exposed how government machine learning systems disproportionately targeted people based on ethnicity and gender
Morgan Currie (University of Edinburgh)– on her research into how FOI requests revealed the UK Department for Work and Pensions’ use of secretive data analytics to detect welfare fraud
