Hi folks,

Recently, MuckRock joined together with the Electronic Frontier Foundation to test pilot (no pun intended) a coordinated FOIA project: Tracking the domestic usage of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. Because the U.S.'s Right to Know laws are still stuck in the days of Gutenberg, we typically have to charge for requests, but we decided we'd eat the postage, scanning time, etc. in the name of an interesting experiment.

What we did is let anyone suggest an agency, and asked them to include e-mail, fax, phone, address, etc., to file a request asking for drone related documents. We're submitted the exact same request to every submitted agency, and compiling the results.

There's over a hundred user submissions which have already netted hundreds of pages of documents so far, and it's been covered by the New York Times and other news organizations.

Anyone interested in coordinating some international efforts for similar requests in your country? We've been extremely excited about the response, and would love to see these kinds of widely distributed campaigns take on an international bent.

Our call for submissions:

NYTimes writeup:

Best,

Michael
