Good afternoon and Happy New Year!
By overwhelming demand, the budget homemade version of my newsletter is back for 2014 (rather than a glossy, pretty looking one)...
Following on from my Microadventure campaign last year, I'm now working on ways to encourage normal folk to think bigger and tackle even bigger adventures. It's called
Adventure1000.
The idea is simple: to help people raise £1000 and show what amazing adventures you could have for that amount of money (cycling to the Sahara, running to Russia etc.). Find out more about Adventure1000
here. I'd love you to get involved.
Those of you in the UK over Christmas might have watched Ben Fogle's latest TV show. It was shown on BBC at prime time over two nights so it must have been watched by millions. I was fascinated to watch the show as the journey was in many ways identical to my own journey
Into The Empty Quarter. I've written some thoughts comparing our two trips
here. Let me know your thoughts if you watched
Ben and James vs The Arabian Desert.
A massive thank you to the hundreds and hundreds of people who bought my film for Christmas presents (either as
DVD or as a HD
Download) - I really do appreciate it. And thank you to all the people who've sent really positive feedback after watching it (thanks, Mum!).
I'm
speaking at the fabulous Wilderness Lectures in
Bristol on February 5th. Details
here.
The folk at Sustrans have asked me to say that Simon Yates (one of the "Touching the Void" climbers is speaking in London in February for them. Details
here.
Finally, I hope that this will be the last newsletter I ever write from this too-cluttered desk. Next month,
inshallah, I'll be ensconced here:

Cheers,
Alastair
