Good afternoon,
It is almost June, almost halfway through the year...
Next weekend is the summer solstice, the glorious longest day of the year. (Apologies to rub this in to my southern hemisphere readers who are in the midst of winter. It serves you right for being so good at rugby and cricket...)

To encourage people to get outdoors, make the most of the sunshine, and taste adventure, I'm running my third annual Summer Solstice Microadventure Challenge. There are some great prizes as an incentive! The details are all on my blog.

This is the perfect time of year to make the most of your "5 to 9" - those 16 long hours of [theoretical] freedom between leaving work one day and having to be back at your desk the next morning.

There will never be a perfect time to go on an adventure.
You will never have quite enough money, enough time, enough equipment, done enough preparation...

In which case it is surely far better to do something, now, than to procrastinate and procrastinate until you look up and realise that the summer has passed you by, again.

The idea is simple:
  • Go on a microadventure between now and the end of June.
  • Share your story online by using the hashtag #microadventure.
  • Win stuff (maybe). Feel good (definitely, unless it rains like last year). Prizes from Mountain Equipment, Kammok, Osprey, Harper Collins, and even the new microadventure t-shirt.
The details are all on my blog

Here's a taster film, including me jumping into a river with big snakes in it. (You don't have to do this.)

In other news...
  • Thank you to everyone who has bought my new book so far, helping to push it as high as #12 on Amazon UK's bestseller list for all books. Fear not - it is plummeting down the charts already: my brief taste of the stratosphere is over!
  • If you've already bought the book, please would you leave a quick review here? It takes 30 seconds to do but makes a massive difference to me. Thank you.
  • Don't forget it's Fathers' Day this weekend. They'd probably like the book...
  • The next Night of Adventure for the charity Hope and Homes for Children takes place in Yorkshire in July. Details here.
  • I'll be speaking in London at this military charity event in July, too.
Cheers!
Alastair
