Peaceful Friends,

The first of these is a bill that would give the Secretary of the Treasury unilateral authority to remove the 501(c)(3) status of any nonprofit deemed (again unilaterally) a "terrorist supporting organization". This is apparently intended to be primarily used against organizations advocating justice for Palestinians, but could be used against any organization that falls out of favor with the administration. For more information see Ann Wright's excellent overview in Peace & Planet News, and the American Friends Service Committee statement. This bill may be voted on today (Wednesday)!

The second is a series of Resolutions of Disapproval, which together will stop the new U.S. weapons transfers to Israel. The Senate will vote on these this week. For more information see Peace Action, Jewish Voice for Peace, and the Veterans For Peace letter to the State Department outlining in detail the U.S. laws that are broken by sending arms to Israel.
