SENATE VOTE ON ARCTIC DRILLING VIA BUDGET BILL THIS WEEK!
A Senate vote on the federal budget resolution is imminent, and an
amendment to strip Arctic drilling from the budget could come even
sooner! Call your Senator this week and ask him/her to vote to protect
the Arctic Refuge from the federal budget vote.
Call the Federal Congressional Switchboard in DC at 202-224-3121, and
ask to be connected to your Senator's office (you will need to call
twice to connect to both offices, leaving your message with each
office). The Senators are:
Sen. Richard Durbin - IL*
Sen. Barack Obama - IL*
Sen. Russ Feingold - WI*
Sen. Herb Kohl- WI*
Sen. Debbie Stabenow - MI*
Sen. Carl Levin - MI*
Sen. Mike DeWine - OH*
Sen. George Voinovich - OH
Sen. Richard Lugar - IN
Sen. Evan Bayh - IN*
If there is an asterisk after the Senator's name, be sure to thank
him/her for consistently voting to protect the Arctic Refuge. If there
is not an asterisk, get as many people from your state as you can to
call, because we need to convert him!!
WHY IS THERE NO MEDIA ON THE PRUDHOE BAY OIL SPILL??
It appears the media is failing to get the word out about BP's oil
spill on the North Slope of Alaska in Prudhoe Bay - right to the West
of the Arctic Refuge. The spill was over 200,000 gallons, and was
detected five days after it began! This oil spill clearly demonstrates
once again that oil drilling is a dirty business and does not belong in
the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Regardless of how advanced our
technology has become, accidents do happen and they pose serious
threats to the environment. Oil drilling is a dirty business and does
not belong in the America's Arctic Refuge.
