BWR Travel and Lodging Arrangements

Are there any pointers in arranging the train and ferry for the BWR?  Can the tickets for train and ferry be combined or does one need to make two separate reservations?  If I read the website correctly, the train leaves Anchorage at 09:45 and it looks like the Whittier to Valdez ferry leaves at 13:45 on the 20th.

I have a friend I'm staying with in Anchorage and if I read the instructions right, the lodging during the ride will be taken care of, but we will need to make reservations for Valdez the night of the 20th and the 21st.  The ride leaves at 23:59 on the 21st, right, so we will have a full day to spend in Valdez.

Is there a recommended Valdez hotel or has anyone worked out a group rate there?  My wife will probably ride the train and ferry with me (or we might skip the train and get shuttled to Whittier for the ferry), but other riders might want to work out room sharing for Valdez.

Bob, here's a link to the updated travel information.  You will need to make separate reservations for the train and ferry.  The recommended hotel in Valdez is the Mountain Sky Hotel.

I'm staying with relatives in Valdez, but will be taking the train/ferry over with everyone else.   I know Kevin is working on options for riders to hang out on Sunday with the late start (if they don't have a room).
