Hey Alaska Randonneurs,

We're starting early this year! The inaugural Homer "End-of-the-Road"
200K brevet will begin on 3/28/09 at 8:00AM from Two Sisters Bakery in
downtown Homer.

Here's a view of the route: http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/ak/homer/349942891000

It'll be a long day on the bike, so make sure it's in superb working
condition before heading to the start. Check out the resources on the
Alaska Randonneurs blog if you need some help getting your bike in
shape.

Please use this forum to discuss anything you want regarding the Homer
ride. Need a ride to Homer? Post it here. Never ridden a brevet
before, and you're wondering what it's all about? Post your questions
here.

Greetings Kevin,

Thanks for starting this up.

I am a new RUSA member out of Homer and will be keeping an eye on the
site as the inaugural ride approaches.

See you at the start.

Hi Joe,

Are you with the Cosmic Hams?

I'm delighted you're coming out for the Homer ride. It should be
fantastic. I'm getting some solid interest. I know I'm sticking my
neck out by having it so early in the season, but I figured that this
ride is worth being bold for.

I'm really excited about the two new Peninsula rides. I can't believe
it hasn't been tried before. Anyway, here's our new ride poster.

See you there!

Greetings Again,

I joined the Cosmics last year and rode the MS 150 with them in
September. I can only guess as to whether I have 130 miles in me
(well, it won't be a guess come the 29th).

I will see if I can hang the Randonneurs poster at the PAC in Kenai.

Super! That'll be a big help. I sent it to Beemuns, but I don't know
if anyone will really post it. I don't want any Kenai/Soldotna riders
left out!

Regarding early-season 200Ks and wondering if you have it in your
legs...Bob, the past RBA for Alaska, offers this sage bit of wisdom:
"Who said anything about being in good condition? Any reasonably fit
cyclist can ride a 200K. The consequences might be a little harsh.
Aches and pains eventually go away and turn into finess.
Here's my recommended training philosophy:
Ride from Alaska to the start of RAAM.
Ride RAAM.
Ride back to Alaska."

Kevin,

Apparently, Bob would not be familiar with the Dairy Queen Point-to-
Point Training System which I developed in Western Massachusetts in
the summer of '92.

I have printed 10 copies of the Poster and will try to get them into
Bulletin Boards and Fitness Clubs between Kenai and Homer.

By the way, have you considered approaching the Islands and Oceans
Center regarding Parking. They are just up the hill above Two Sisters
and are open from noon to five on Saturday. They may offer some
parking spaces, and it might be something of interest to friends and
family accompanying riders but not participating in the ride.
