Hi everyone,
I think that it’s safe to say that our first tour was a great success! Many thanks to all of you who joined us last night.
Below are the names, with contact information, of the attendees. Kathryn came up with a list of questions to ask as a part of the follow-up/thank you calls. There are a few missing phone numbers, but if possible, make a phone call be your first attempted method of contact. Two people, Jennifer Ong and Jenny Miller, hadn’t registered officially and managed to slip in without leaving their information. Does anyone know who they are connected with?
As a group can you all divvy up the people to call?
1. (How did you find out about the tour?)
2. What were the one or two best parts of the tour for you?
3. What can we do better on our next community tour?
4. Are there specific ways you might want to connect with APC staff and residents in the future? For example,
· as an ongoing, individual volunteer (in the children’s center, teen center , Ploughshares, Farm, other),
· as part of an employee or church group doing one-day volunteer projects,
· visiting Ploughshares for workshops or plant purchases,
· supporting the Farm by purchasing a “subscription” to its fruits and vegetables, helping us raise our visibility with the larger Alameda community,
serving as a member of the board or a board committee
5. Your additional comments or suggestions

Dr. Jennifer Hidalgo Ong [member of both the Alameda Hospital and Eden Township HealthCare District community advisory boards; immediate past Chair of Alameda County Commission on the Status of Women]:
1) Hearing youth share and show the activities that benefit their needs (perhaps selecting youth that can read their prepared statements of their activities in case they forget under the pressure of presenting to adults?)
2) Learning through the tour about services and activities that the community can enjoy (pesticide free gardening, buying Ploughshares plants as part of a workforce development program etc.)
3) Doug shared a success story that was very compelling about the long term impact of the supportive services which include both affordable housing, the tools to improve employment opportunities for adults and educational options for youth. (these are the stories that truly stand out and make potential supporters step up and contribute their time and money so if one of the presenters/tour leaders happen to have this story or is a person who succeeded through these services, that will be great to continue to include)
Let me know if you have other specific questions. Do include me in future mailings for APC and let me know how we can keep promoting your good work.
Jenny Miller I’m so sorry I had to cancel at the last minute. Please put me on the list for the next tour; I’m very interested in APC and, having recently retired [as a longtime mental health counselor for Alameda County] I’m looking for volunteer opportunities.

- overall amazing tour, these areas below were covered during the tour but some were because people asked questions. It may have been the plan to brief on all of these during stops on the tour. It was nice to learn about:
-- a basic overview of the housing mission and clients would help at the beginning - # of people served, basic size of homes, process used to serve folks (wait list, "permanent" housing idea, eligibility criteria, turnover, life training, focus on empowering families and kids, etc)
-- a basic overview of the other services (educ, teen center, farm, nursery)
-- a basic overview of staff - including how volunteers regularly play a part
- I liked the participation of clients and kids telling their story in their own words
- I would have been happy to plan to visit longer - and see the farm as a part of the tour. The shorter time with the farm as an option was nice too.
Great mission. Great service to our community. Thank you for inviting me!
