Well I'm afraid the time has come for me to pass Pelican on to a new
owner. I've had her for 30 years and she has given me much pleasure
even if only sailing with her in the Bay Area. She's had many upgrades
over the years and is in fine condition. I recently had her hauled
for new bottom paint and one or two maintenance jobs at which time I
also had a "Condition and Valuation" report (26 pages of it) completed
for the insurance company which was to their satisfaction.

If anyone is seriously interested in her please email meil.

Cheers,

Doug Iles

Hi Doug,
It's bittersweet. I know how you have loved that boat. I guess it's been 8 or 10 years since I sold Maya. I still miss her. My current boat is a great one too but just not the same way as Maya.

Anyone that buys Pelican will love her the way you do. Alajuelas are that kind of boat.

Good luck on a speedy sale and an easy transition.
Yours,

Dennis.

Hey Dennis,

I think we’d all agree that we are merely custodians of some magnificent vessels and that there is nothing more joyous, despite the sadness of its loss, than to pass our charges onto another in better condition than we received them.

These Alajuelas have outlasted a number generations and hopefully will outlast a good few more.

We sold our Alajuela 33 ‘Mico’ almost a decade ago after cruising through the Pacific, Coral Sea and Papua New Guinea.

Previous owners have sailed her from the US, across the Pacific to Japan, New Zealand and around Australia.

We now keep in contact with her new owner Greg and have had the privilege of meeting up with both him and Mico at a number of anchorages up here on the Great Barrier Reef after crossing over to the dark side and now cruising in our Simpson catamaran - Ladybird.

Mico’s still a beautiful vessel and has kept both ourselves and many others safe and secure at sea through countless ocean crossings.

I’m sure Pelican has and will continue to do the same :)

Fair winds.

Shaun
