Subject: 2022 Aug Mat-Su Flooding - SEOC @ Level 2
Good Afternoon Agency Representatives and Liaisons,
Please see the following information regarding flooding in Mat-Su.
SEOC at Preparedness Level 2 – Heightened Awareness – Mat-Su Area Flooding
SEOC Incident Created - 2022 Aug Mat-Su Flooding
Incident Name: 2022 Aug Mat-Su Flooding
First Class Conference: TBD
Incident Brief:
At 0620 hrs. today (8/9/2022) SEOC received a report from AST of multiple 911 calls last night (9/8/2022) reporting flooding in the area of Schrock Road and Sitze Road in Wasilla. AST reported road washed out and impassible just past the Little Susitna River Bridge, insolating some residents including those in the North Sushana Drive area. DOT/PF began addressing culvert(s) and wash-outs early this morning.
SEOC contacted Mat-Su Emergency Management who reported approximately 20 homes affected by flooding including one that is partially submerged off of Wasilla Fish Hook Rd. Some residences evacuated last night but did not require sheltering. Red Cross is prepared to respond to assist displaced residents, but there are no requests for assistance at this time.
At 1530 hrs. SEOC received a signed Declaration of Local Disaster from the City of Houston, through the Mat-Su Borough. The City’s initial report was flooding on 10 roads, 20 homes impacted, 40+ homes cut-off, with one pet rescue conducted.
Incident Potential:
APFRC reports rivers have not yet crested, and additional flooding is possible. Mat-Su Borough and City of Houston are still engaged in response. SEOC conducted initial, contingency coordination with State-level Mass Care agencies.
SEOC will remain in regular contact with responding jurisdictions and agencies.
Potential for a Mass Care support response.
No additional SEOC staffing is required at this time.
Thank you,
v/r,
Desiree Chambers
