Greetings all,

Well the day is nearing for my retirement from UCC Disaster Ministries. What an amazing pleasure it has been to share these two + years with the Global HOPE Team as we expanded the Disaster Ministries programs.

I am so grateful for this time of dreaming, goal setting, program development and relationship building for the UCC Disaster Ministry Program under Wider Church Ministries and Global HOPE leadership and encouragement. Thank you to the UCC for allowing this special time with the many incredible and talented staff, dedicated volunteers and valued partners. I am honored to have shared in developing goals and helped to build for the future. Disaster Ministries is a vital component of the national and conference programs this will only grow as disasters of all types-technology and human caused and environmental-climate change related, and natural severe weather events are supported through this program.

Through the critical and essential work of the Conference Disaster Coordinators and their teams who provide the central piece of our ministry- to the addition of an Emotional and Spiritual Care Team with newly added caregivers providing this unique support for a church in need of hope from the daily crises and disasters we face, I am grateful.

We celebrate the revitalization of the Environmental and Technology Caused disaster focus, a hallmark of the UCC as we encounter increasing number of human-caused events, expanding what disaster ministries means in this century.

We are proud of the latest designation and certification we have received as Disaster WISE (Welcoming, Inclusive, Supportive, Engaged) providing a level of depth and concern for the many and varying communities we serve, impacted by human and naturally caused disasters.

As the UCC Disaster Minister I am so proud of the work to make preparedness the #1 priority in 2022, with the Disciples of Christ Week of Compassion and Houston Responds, we developed a new online registry Willing to Respond https://willingtorespond.org a simple way for houses of worship to indicate their interest in preparing for and responding to disasters offering many preparedness tools for planning. In addition the UCC offers houses of worship seven (7) new resources for readiness- which strive to support healthy and vibrant disaster programs. Resources - United Church of Christ (ucc.org)

May the work of Global HOPE Disaster Ministries continue to grow and find even more ways to serve with our partners as we address communities most in need of care and concern.

Now after 46 years of working across the faith based, educational, governmental and disaster world, I am ready to explore a freedom I have not yet experienced. I am looking forward to choosing my time in service to others, spending more time with my parents and family, working in the garden, walking and continuing the traveling to destinations on the potential list for so many years and much more.
