e - COACHING – FUTURE COACHING

“At 9-30 PM , when I was having my dinner , I got a call from one of my old students , who is an Engineer in Jammu, that  his daughter is having some problem in Cube-slicing. I told him to call me back after half an hour and enquired if he has a broadband connection ,to which he  replied in affirmative. After my dinner, it took me some 20 minutes to prepare a Power Point Presentation(PPT) concerning the slicing of cubes. At 10 PM  I asked  the girl to log on to www.wiziq.com (the most  popular  Educational Website) and click  to the web-link  which  I had sent to her.  This lead her to  my virtual classroom, where I made her understand the concept with the help of PPT and interactive explanation.”

This is the magic of e- learning/e-coaching

What is e–Coaching

It is an interactive, two-way communication between a presenter (Teacher) and the attendee/attendees (learners/ students) through a good broad band internet connection. There is no limit to the number of attendees who can be on their own computers at their convenient places

The Attendee

The attendee can actively participate in the proceedings in the virtual class. He/ She can contribute or even raise any question during the class/session:-

(1)    Through chatting (written) which  he/ she can type in the chatting box provided in the platform.

(2)   Through audio questioning, where he has to raise his/her hand and the presenter (teacher) will allow the person to speak the question.

(3)   Through video, where again the presenter can give the attendee the chance to show his point of view through audio-video communication, if the attendee has a web-cam.

The  Presenter

The presenter (Teacher) explains his/her concepts and topics with the help of:-

(1)   A sequence of ( up to 31)  white boards on which he/she can draw, write, or make his point of view by different colored markers, which the attendees can see instantly and conceive  the concept.

(2)   Any number of power point presentations.

(3)   A mike on which he speaks and the attendees will listen and understand.

(4)   The view of the presenter, who by emotions and questions can motivate the attendees to grasp the concept.

(5)   Some video strips of the  concepts or happenings or events pertaining to the topic. These video strips of  real situations will  improve  the comprehension of the recipients.

(6)   Written chat in the chat box to respond to the chat questions raised by the recipients.

The Platform

The applications which are being used to teach and learn through internet is commonly called the Platform. www.wiziq.com is one of the most popular and used web based application and Education Website which is used by the maximum numbers of teachers and students across the globe.  The features here are being constantly upgraded and improved to make it more compatible and user friendly. This does not require any installation on the computers.

The requirements to use this are:-

(a)    Good broad band connection.

(b)   A latest flash player installed computer/laptop

(c)    A mic and headphone connected to the system

(d)   A webcam (not mandatory for audio classes, mandatory for audio-video classes).

The Virtual Classroom

There are lots of options for the presenter to make his/her teaching effective and comprehensible with the help of options available in the virtual class.

(1)   He/she can use mathematical symbols which are used  not only by Mathematics teachers but by all subject  teachers in their classes.

(2)   He can write on the board by a mouse or a digital pen.

(3)   He can draw  progressively as the presentation progresses, be it a concept/ diagram/any derivation etc..

(4)   He can upload any power point presentation which can be used to explain any concept during the session at the appropriate time.

(5)   He can use a graph, which is available in the platform or can highlight any important phrase or concept developed during the presentation.

(6)   The session is recorded simultaneously and the recordings can be viewed any time and any number of times.

(7)   The session can be terminated /extended as and when the presenter thinks proper.

(8)   The platforms in the market are improving rapidly in response to the demands  of the users. This follows the feedback of the persons using it in different situations. This shall be a continuous process. .

The Future/Advantages

The need for such interactive sessions between a teacher and a learner is tremendous.

1..      There is no barrier of the distance between the teacher and the learner.

2.      Choice of a good teacher is not limited to the neighborhood of the dwelling of the learner.

3.      The constraint of the time factor is minimal. Convenience of the time for the session can be mutually settled.

4.      The learner can ask for the session any time and can even request for its extension till her/his requirement is met.

5.      The use of internet has improved tremendously and  the importance of such  interactive courses has increased.

6.      The choice of revisiting the already recorded session also allows the attendee to look for missed sessions or less understood topics/concepts.

The above write-up has been written by Prof. B L Raina, a retired professor of Mathematics and who  has written about 15 text books on mathematics. He teaches on line and gives FOUR Public Sessions  per week on wiziq.com which are free to attend. Two sessions ( Monday and Friday )are for AIEEE and two (Wednesday and Sunday) are for CAT  Preparation  The time for the sessions is 8PM to 9PM.
