Pools Save Lives! www.people4pools.org

Greetings friends of pools.  I would like to thank Marcia Harmening for getting this schedule to me to distribute to all of you.

You should know that if Bartlett and/or Service is closed it will affect all users of all Anchorage pools not to mention the entire state.
  • Imagine 3-4 high schools practicing at one pool.
  • Imagine hosting the Gold Nugget Triathlon (1200 participants) at a facility other than Bartlett.
  • Imagine swim lesson waiting lists doubling from +100 to +200 or more.
  • Imagine hosting Alaska Swimming's Junior Olympics at a pool with less than 38% the capacity of Bartlett.
We can do something about it!  Whether you live in Anchorage, or not, there is something you can do.  Please read on to see how you can help!

*****For those in the Anchorage Area*****
Assembly Schedule Regarding Pools for
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 25:

  • 4:15 p.m. Groups (students, parents, triathletes, masters swimmers, etc) picket for pools on corner of Denali and 36th
    • This is rush hour, prime time for news and will be noticed by people entering the assembly meeting
  • 5 p.m. – Everyone attends the business meeting in the Library from 5-6 p.m. Let’s pack the place!
    • Mr. Traini will have the floor right after Mayor’s Comments. The Assembly members will question Jeff Dillon about pools at this time.
    • NOTE: This is NOT an opportunity for public comment. But please be on hand to make a strong showing of support for pools and hear for yourself what Mr. Dillon has to say.
    • Some people may want to linger after the meeting in case the media would like perspectives on the pools other than the version presented by Mr. Dillon.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 26TH, Follow U:

  • Take notes at the assembly business meeting. If there are issues you feel were not addressed or you have opinions that differ from Mr. Dillon’s, now would be a great time to e-mail the assembly at WW...@ci.anchorage.ak.us or write letters to the editor on-line at www.adn.com/help/v-letters/.

FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES FOR PUBLIC INPUT ON POOLS:

The budget process will be introduced to the assembly on Oct. 9th. The first public hearing will be on Tuesday, Oct. 23rd and again on Nov. 6th.

*****For our friends outside Anchorage Area*****

Individuals from around the state to contact Representative Meyer (Representativ...@legis.state.ak.us) and your own state representatives (http://house.legis.state.ak.us/) to let them know that them know that Bartlett's continued operation is a state issue.

Please call and/or write your state representatives today!
