Tyler will present on home automation and Home Assistant for this Thursday’s meeting April 2nd.
I will bring a Pi4 and a Pi5 and a mini pc with Home Assistant installed on them.
I have some ESP32 devices to just show those examples of the hardware that can be used withHA.
Tyler will cover the presentation:
- Overview on the state of Home Automation today
- Home Assistant (open-source) vs commercially available closed-source systems (brief)
- Overview of Home Assistant as a platform and capabilities
- Hardware Requirements
- Common Integrations by connectivity ecosystem (Z-Wave, Zigbee, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Thread, Matter, etc.)
- Use Case and Implementation Examples
- Privacy and Security implications
- Pros and Cons of Home Automation/Home Assistant
- Best Practices and Common Pitfalls to Avoid
I am hoping this is engaging topic for the group. It is a fun and nuanced hobby for me though it requires some ongoing upkeep as all things do.
Regards,
Tyler Marovich
