Good Afternoon,
I am happy present on home automation and Home Assistant for this Thursday’s meeting.

I wanted to share a general outline of what I wanted to cover in my presentation:

  • Overview on the state of Home Automation today
  • Home Assistant (open-source) vs commercially available closed-source systems (brief)
  • Overview of Home Assistant as a platform and capabilities
    • Hardware Requirements
    • Common Integrations by connectivity ecosystem (Z-Wave, Zigbee, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Thread, Matter, etc.)
    • Use Case and Implementation Examples
    • Privacy and Security implications
    • Pros and Cons of Home Automation/Home Assistant
    • Best Practices and Common Pitfalls to Avoid

I am hoping this is engaging topic for the group. It is a fun and nuanced hobby for me though it requires some ongoing upkeep as all things do, lol.

Regards,
Tyler Marovich
