Hello all,

The width and height attributes on Akoma Ntoso <img> elements must be integers. Is the unit of these values understood to be the same as that in the HTML spec (that is, CSS pixels, or 1/96th of an inch)? Or is one allowed to use some other unit? And if so, how should one indicate what that unit is?

Thanks,
Jim

Dear Jim,

the way I see it, is that the <img> tag in AKN follows the assumptions and syntax of the corresponding tag in HTML. This means that the absolute number of width and height should be assumed as the number of pixels when presented on screen.

> The reference pixel is the visual angle of one pixel on a device with a pixel density of 96dpi and a distance from the reader of an arm’s length. For a nominal arm’s length of 28 inches, the visual angle is therefore about 0.0213 degrees. For reading at arm’s length, 1px thus corresponds to about 0.26 mm (1/96 inch).

Larger screens read at a larger distance (e.g. a billboard on a wall), or smaller screens read at a closer distance (e.g. a smartphone) may have different ratios.

More precise measurements can be obtained by specifying the dimensions using the relevant CSS properties and units.

Ciao

Fabio
