If you haven't seen this yet you might want to check out
Printrbot.com. They are a start-up with plans to market a 3D printer
for $499. There's a link on their homepage to their project page on
kickstarter.com. They needed to get $25,000 in donations and order
commitments to make the project go and they reached 100% funding in 46
hours. Right now they're approaching $300K with no slowdown in orders.
They hope to start shipping in February. I've got one on order and I
can't wait to see what I can do with it.

hello anchorage hackerspace. have you guys come up with a good name
for yourselves yet? Im willing to help you guys in anyway I can. p.s
the resistors burn up every 200 hours or so on the makerbots so be
ready. Im jesse a member from Sector67 and I have family in anchorage
and Im trying to get him into the Idea of hackerspaces. well if you

Hi Jesse,

The group hasn't been very active this past year. I'm hoping that 2012
will be the year it does.

It appears there's a huge demand for affordable 3D printers as supporters of the Printrbot project committed over $830,000.00 to making it happen. I'm expecting to receive one of the printers in March. If anyone is experienced with 3D modeling software, I'd trade some print time for lessons. I downloaded the free version of Google Sketchup for now.
