Hey Makers,

Some coworkers and I, slightly inspired by the mars rover landing, are trying to get our own rocket as high as possible - with the eventual goal of trying to hit something into the moon. One of the guys has purchased a 3D printer, as he's into robotics and wanted to buy one anyways. We've already worked out much of the logistics of the craft we're going to use (it will be reusable with custom avionics to guide it back home)  and are estimating a weight between 2.5 pounds and 15-20 pounds depending on the decided launch mechanisms.

I'm reaching out as the more like minded folks on this project, the better chances of success. If any of you might be interested, I've started a google group for it called Let's go to space!

my membership is pending on the other forum. so I'm not sure how much this helps but to have active communication with your bot your going to need to take control of a few dishes. gps cuts out at 30,000 feet or so and telemetry just goes crazy if its trying to read the gps. when i was at maker fair Detroit I saw a nice rocket from LVL1  http://wiki.lvl1.org/Rocket_Engine_Test_Stand  and that might be a good place to start.
