I recently bought a Sony KD-65X80LU, I found after purchase that unlike my KD-55XG8196 which I had just got rid of, there was no text available on BBC channels. Okay I can live with that but today Subtitles stopped working, so I have a text button and a subtitles button on my remote which are now redundant. As I am hard of hearing subtitles are a necessity.
Since Teams recordings have started to save in users OneDrives, our users can no longer get access the the subtitles file that goes with it. The only workaround I have found is to upload the recording to MS Stream and it will produce me a Captions file to go with the recording.
Bought a movie on iTunes, A Beautiful day in the neighborhood, and the subtitles doesnt come up. It doesnt work to turn it off and on again. But others movies from iTunes which I have purchased has subtitles, just this movie it doesnt work on. And it doesnt matter which language I choose either. Anybody familiar with this?

Hey im just starting out, just wondering if any of you guys have tried playing with the game in japanese and subtitles and if it is a more compelling / effective experience than the english voice acting?
I have to agree, the english voives in this game are done to a very high standard, because of this reason it is down to prefence, do you prefer to listen to great english voice acting or do you prefer to read great english dialect?
I like to play with japanese sound and english text... but in this game i use english all the way (not native japanese nor have the ability to understand japanese ^^).... Start the game and play for a while to se if you like it or not
i beat it on english first, im half way through it on Japanease, and honestly, english has way better voice acting, but thats not to say the Japanease voice acting is bad too, its also pretty good, considering Kaim's voice is still dubbed with a deep voice, listening to him talk in japanease is a whole new expeirience... def worth a shot if your going to play it again...
Depends on what you think is "well done". Like all (well 99.9%) dubbed games/anime, the voices are so forced and 'whinny' and... AMERICAN. If you want the original game experience, chose Japanese with subtitles, you will thank yourself for it.
Call me an idiot, but I'm a firm believer in receiving the intended experience from all things. So if a movie is in a foreign language or a game, then I'll demand the original voices and read the subtitles. Our, plus the new, generation is getting way too lazy and just prefer English audio as they can't be bothered to read, and probably can't read fast enough for the subtitles anyway. I couldn't believe it when Ubisoft removed the Japanese audio track from the Naruto game, I only watch that series in Japanese and hearing those English voice overs gave me chills. Thank goodness they releaced the Japanese audio as DLC. Too bad that the cinematics were still in English, it was very sloppy.
I have a KD-55AG9 with which I am very happy ....BUT while I can get subtitles on all channels and Apps I simply cannot get them on ITV Hub even though the programme guide states that they are there. Am I alone with this problem or can anyonme help
ITV Hub responded very quickly to my email pointing out that they don't work with Sony on Youview but I can get subtitles if I watch via Roku using my NowTV handset. Problem solved and smiles all round. Thanks Joe
I watched TLOSL from WeTV with English subs. With the very little Chinese that I have, I noticed that sometimes the subs didn't make sense, or were not translated enough. Sometimes, more words were spoken than translated). Unsatisfied, I sought a different version, and found VIU subs from avistaz.to. In quite a few instances, I prefer the VIU version.
I get it now why XZ lost control and rebelled against Heaven after Shen Li died. He was too lonely. He couldn't live another thousands and thousands of years in this loneliness again. And it offered insight to an earlier episode when he said he would give up his life to compensate for Shen Li's if she died in battle. That was a love confession already!
Some of the translations aren't great, but sometimes Chinese just doesn't translate well. For example, when they are visiting Jin Niangzi, she says 你们夫妇二人 (Nimen fufu er ren). 夫妇 means husband and wife, but in English this fufu is lost in translation because you can't say that in an idiomatic way in English so all you can translate it as is "You two" but that then misses the fact that she has addressed them as husband and wife.
Another translation that irritates me is calling the Ling Jie 灵界 the Demon realm, whereas it's more like the Spirit Realm. In English, the word demon is associated with evil which obviously isn't the case for Shenli's realm.
In the WeTV translation, Shen Li lives in the "Immortal realm", Furong Jin lives in the "Divine realm" and the ancient gods live in Extranatural Heaven ("Sky's Beyond", according to Viu's). I like neither "Extranatural Heaven" nor "Sky's Beyond". My limited Mandarin thinks it's closer to "the heavens outside of heaven", which is still unsatisfactory.
Yeah Viki subtitles are a bit off with the names for the realms and peoples. They've also changed recently. At first it was also the Immortal Realm and then the subs changed it to Demon realm, which is incorrect. The problem is again how things get lost in translation when there isn't an English language equivalent. English doesn't have as many words for different types of immortal/spiritual beings, so this is where it gets tricky to make subtitles. Shen, Xian, Yaoling, Yaogui, Mo, Gui and so on... We have about half the vocabulary in English.
Extranatural Heaven is a super weird translation but it does give this impression that it is another dimension altogether. It is called Tian Hai Tian, but I'm not sure which "Hai" character it is. It would probably have been sensible for subbers to simply call it High Heaven, which is more natural sounding in English.
I was just rewatching Shenli and picked up another phrase that is difficult to translate. They call Xingzhi's special power "Water halting spell" (zhi shui shu) on Viki. 治水 zhi shui is a Chinese word that means to regulate watercourses / rivers or prevent floods through water control. We don't have an English equivalent. Water halting is a weird translation too as 治 zhi means to control/rule/manage/govern/harness etc, not halt or stop. So a better translation might be water harnessing power.
Both of these versions are more or less correct. She was undergoing rebirth/nirvana as a phoenix but it seemed to fail or she thought it failed and she was about to drop dead. Her last thought was of Xingzhi. (It obviously didn't fail or she wouldn't still be around.)
Your next one after that quotes another idiom that literally translates to if the heavens falls or earth cracks and just is a bombastic way of saying no matter what I will be by your side. Both are correct.
Shangbei asks Mofang:
Do you think Xingzhi bullied our King Bicang? (by forcing her to accompany him to reinforce the seals just after she recovered)
Xingzhi's behavior does appear a bit eccentric
But if you think about it, that powerful cleansing aura would made any one of us weak at the knees.
He is just telling Mofang only King Bicang had strong enough cultivation to accompany Xingzhi on his miasma cleansing mission. Xingzhi just didn't bother to explain himself to peons like Mofang and Shangbei or even Shen Li. He is a grumpy old god that doesn't like being pestered.
I have no further comments on the rest. From what I can see the subs overall look ok, I have seen a lot worse. I think some of the missing bits are just specific to the story or Chinese mythology which the subbers didn't bother to elaborate on.
We often watch shows with Japanese subtitles. A few days ago, Japanese subtitles disappeared from the list of choices. I still see (typically) a dozen or so other choices, often including Asian languages such as Korean and Chinese - but no Japanese any more. One specific example: The "Wednesday" series on Netflix - previously watched the entire series with English audio and Japanese subtitles, but today Japanese is simply not in the list of languages choices. I see the same thing on Disney+ with the "Mandalorian" series. How is that possible??? Thanks!
For more information about that channel's features and functionality including subtitles, you'll want to contact the channel provider support directly to inquire further. Many channels on Roku are developed and maintained by the channel provider themselves.
Thanks for your reply. I tried those things, but no change. NOTE that captions are *working*, the problem is that Japanese is no longer in the list. There are at least a dozen other choices, including English, Spanish, Chinese, Korean, etc. -- but no Japanese.
