Anybody got a reasonable mail tool for doing the code review process? I'm finding gmail and inbox, much as I like the, are the wrong tools for the job. It's just slow enough to be a distraction.

Suggestions? Ideas?

I'll try it. Are you able to use it with some kind of SMTP to your gmail service?

i'm using claws-mail at the moment. there's a few things i don't like
about it, but it's been good enough for the last 8 years. i plan to
try out mutt and imap as well.

If you're going to go that route, I'd suggest vmail since I know how
much you like vim.

That was a joke ☺
I actually use it, for my xmailserver.org email, but it's not something I would suggest, if you aren't born with it.
I used to watch kernel patches floating around lkml with tkdiff, but after getting used to UIs, code reviews are just much better there.

To just read the patches, patchwork may help. But to reply, still
have to go back to the email client.

Probably patchwork can be extended so that one can compose a reply
(i.e. many comments) on the web UI, then get a plain text email in the
end to be copied and pasted into gmail.

From my own point of view, it will probably be nicer if patchwork can
organize email replies in a tree structure so it's easier to follow
the context. That would require each email reply has exactly one
email parent, which is usually the case.

Before Google, I used MH (really, nmh by that point). It never dealt particularly well with HTML-ified email (or for that matter, with attachments) though. Under Plan 9, I used acme mail with upas for a while, but that's a non-starter for obvious reasons....

In the last six or so months, I've seen people using Apple mail, thunderbird, and one person using claws-mail.
