Two men entered a New Town highrise complex disguised as courier boys and robbed an 11th floor flat after overpowering the homemaker who was alone on Friday afternoon.
KOLKATA: The Bidhannanagar policecommissionerate will send a proposal to theHousing Infrastructure Development Corporation(Hidco), asking it not to issue completion certificates to housing complexes under construction before the police inspect the security arrangements.
The Bidhannagar Police on Wednesday held a meeting with representatives of several residents' associations of New Town and also with private security agencies to discuss the township's security aspects. It was only last week that a daring daylight robbery occurred in one of the plush residential complexes.
The residents expressed their concern regarding inadequate policing. Sources said the police were told that several areas under Action Area I and II have poor street lighting where several snatchings have occurred.
Residents also said that the township becomes very unsafe after dusk, especially for women. Some time back, a woman was allegedly picked up by some criminals from the city at night and raped inside a car in Rajarhat.
It was finally decided at the meeting that the Bidhannagar Police will forward a suggestion to Hidco, asking it not to issue completion certificates to some of the bigger housing complexes under construction before a thorough inspection of the security arrangements, including CCTV cameras and security alarms.
The residents have been advised to submit forms with details of their domestic helps within the next couple of months. They were also asked to engage only registered private security agencies.
Regarding last week's robbery, where the criminals posed as courier delivery boys, police said they have been tracing call records that have led them to some important clues on their whereabouts.
Hidco authorities said they had earlier held a meeting with the police on security issues. Last year, the New Town Kolkata Development Authority amended the building rules of the township, making installation of CCTV cameras and security alarms mandatory for all buildings constructed on plots covering an acre or more.
