Attention Members and Students.  Free money to learn to soar for a youth member.  I hope that our Akaflieg students take the opportunity to fill out an application.  If any of our members know of a promising young person eager to learn, please forward them this Scholarship opportunity.

 

 

 

In a past article published in Soaring Magazine, the late Charlie Spratt wrote, “I am convinced that the future of our sport depends on new young pilots. Without showing them soaring we will not get them involved. We all know that the passions we had when we were young are the strongest and longest-lasting. All it takes is a seed.” 

The Michael Wallace Memorial Scholarship is beginning its tenth year. We have been pleased to provide scholarships every year to young student pilots who have a love for soaring.

This year, the grant is $1,000.00, to be paid to a flight school or club for the benefit of the recipient of the scholarship. Applications for the grant are due by March 15, 2011. The grant will be awarded by April 30, 2011.

Students 14 to 22 years of age are eligible to apply and the requirements are fairly easy.

Please help us to get your students and their parents interested in applying for the scholarship. I’m sure that parents would be interested in the financial help this scholarship could offer.

I have one other request. These tough financial times are hard on everyone, including our scholarship. Please consider making a donation to help us continue and hopefully, to increase the grants we can award. I believe this is a great investment in the future of our sport, our clubs, our businesses, and most important, our children. All donations, no matter how large or small, are greatly appreciated. Donations are tax deductible, and every single cent earned by this fund is used for scholarship grants. I hope you’ll help us.
